well, its not molecularly structured as an opiate, so technicnally no. Its an analgesic, but it binds to your opiod receptors, and acts as an opiate. My husband has to take it on a daily basis. He says it doesn't buzz him up like vicodin would, but he does get pain relief from it.

    • are you allergic to opiates? If you are it makes sense if you were taking Ultram, since it is Opiate-LIKE. Your doc should've known that when he prescribed it to you..

    • Yes. My doctor said it was not really an opiate. And now I am sick... but still at work. UGH

    • You poor thing! If you can get your hands on some benadryl, it may help you, may make you drowsy, but atleast the itching will aleviate a little! I'd call your doctor and cuss him out. I'm still in school for nursing and know that anything that acts like something else, will cause similar side effects, ESPECIALLY if it acts like something you are allergic to.
