Where did the tradition that it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding come from?

    In ages past, when a marriage is arranged, the groom was not allowed to see the bride for fear he may reject her based on her appearance (or vice versa) and not the parents wise counsel !

    Remember the bible story where a guy who fell in love with a beautiful woman asked her father for her, but the father tricked him into seven yaers of labor and he married her sister. So he still wanted her and the father again tricked the man la la ...

    It is customary for the veil to be undone after the ring is placed on her finger.

    • The "guy" is Jacob. That's why Jewish grooms get a peek under the veil before the wedding: to make sure it's the right bride.
