One reason why babies get ear infections is because they are put to sleep with a bottle or while breastfeeding. Children should not go to sleep with a breast or bottle in their mouth. Not that they can't fall asleep while eating, but you should let them drink and when they are done you put them down to sleep. Don't leave a bottle in the crib. Other ways to prevent ear infections:

*Keep your child away from cigarette smoke.
*Determine if your child has food or other allergies, and avoid them.
    *Avoid contact with sick children.
*Stop using your wood stove or fireplace.
*Breastfeed your baby if you can, maybe because of antibodies in milk or because they don't go to bed with a bottle.
*Ask the doctor about the conjugate pneumococcal vaccine, which protects your child against a type of bacteria that can cause ear infections.
