You're reading What are some generic conventions of film and fiction novels? For example, setting, characters
Comments
Values and Attitudes presented through characterization. Selection of detail. Like you already said, context. Social, personal and political issues. For film, you could talk about Camera codes and conventions; camera angles, high, low or eye level- how does this effect or position you to take on the ideas presented, Camera distance; does this infer something is has more importance then something else in the shot, and also camera movement, tracking shots can help visualize what it would be like to be there and there for it encourages you to take on an opinion or idea. In novel texts talk about HOW the author positions you and WHY. Always make sure you explain HOW and WHY. that can be done through conventions. The main thing is that you say to your self, ok, what is the purpose here. :) hope this helps. Sorry there it probably a lot more here than you were expecting.
