Why is the nose of the Great Sphinx in Gizeh missing?

    The two most widely held reasons was that it was shot off, with a cannon, by a Turkish Mir or by Napoleon. It is possible that they both took a stab at it.

    • Wasn't Napoleon. His Egyptian expedition / invasion was 1798 to 1801. Frederick Lewis Norden's sketch was earlier.
