You're reading How do you check and clear OBD II codes
Comments
You must have a code reader to read the codes! You can't read flashes of the check engine light as you could on the old system.
I advised you where to get the reader and told you how to get the info free and you down rated my answer ?????????

Autozone only can read cars form '96 to current, I checked two days ago and thats what they said. Other wise good answer.

@Oddjob: OBDI codes came out in 1991. OBDII (which you specifically asked about) took effect in 1996 which is why Autozone can only read cars from '96 to current. So Avatar's original answer was spot on.

@JOW A correction OBD-I was used by CARB around 1987-88. If you noticed I was no the one asking this question. I know the difference between OBD-I, II and CAN. I just wanted to make sure others reading 60s Rock's answer knew Autozone would not be able to diagnose cars prior to '96 (there are some exception like my Audi A6 that is a '95 but has OBD-II).
Might I suggest you take a little more time understanding the layout of this site before commenting. :)
