What are some ways to get my 12 month old to learn how to spoon-feed himself?

12 months is a good age to just give him a plastic/rubber-coated spoon to play with and hold onto while you are spoon feeding him. Plus, I always fed and kept my babies at the table while the rest of us ate our meal. They truly do learn by example!
