What are some ways to get my 12 month old to learn how to spoon-feed himself?

I really don't think a 12month old will eat with a spoon I work at a daycare and it's hard anough to get 2 year olds to, let alone a 12month old. I say just let her eat with their hands it might get messy, but its a good sensory!
