You work hard to be good and then to be great, but when you're great, you don't just want to be good - Agree or disagree?

You're reading Am I crazy? I find I'm always looking at womens clevage when they are wearing low cut tops, or blouses, even if I don't find them attractive. Help! I'm making my female co-workers uncomfortable. I don't know why i do this. I need to stop.

But he also mentioned "Blouses" which are the norm for the workplace.

Not blouses that show cleavage! Which workplace is that acceptable?
by DebsSweet on November 27th, 2006
I took both meanings into consideration, however whether they dress accordingly or not, is not the issue in my opnion anyway. He is obviously having a problem controlling his urges enough that he is making women uncomfortable, that is what is important. He also stated he does it even if they are not attractive, so he needs to practice some self control..

No, that isn't the issue -- I was curious as to what workplace allowed this kind of dress code.

First of all, a blouse can be unbuttoned to what would be considered by most people an "appropriate" place, but if she is leaning or bending over, if someone is close and at the right angle, it is not unrealistic to believe that someone really intent on "stimulation" could see down their blouse ABIT. Big deal. NOT the woman's fault. Also we have NO idea how old the person is asking the question, and what HIS idea of "low cut" and cleavage mean to HIM. Many places where there is a warehouse environment or anything other than a formal office setting, women wear more casual tops and bottoms, which can include in warmer climates especially, some variations on tank tops (not halters or anything). As you know, depending on how they fit, and what kind of figure the woman has, these can be more "revealing" (again a very subjective term) than a blouse and jacket or dress, or something else worn in a more formal office or work environment. The guy also needs chill down abit, IMO. Maybe find a girlfriend?

He did not mention only blouses. He said "low cut tops" or blouses. Can be a big difference there obviously.

I work in an office setting for a fortune 500 company. Some of the Admin. girls will dress a little provocativly. But thats not the issue. I should not be staring at them this way. I never used to do this, and I don't know why this has started. I'm a 40 yr old male whos happily married.

Ok, with all the clarifications, I think it might be very helpful, espcially since it bothers both you AND your female co-workers, to seek out a professional opinion.

No woman in any office situation should dress inappropriately -- period. I can't even imagine this. Cleavage is best left at the clubs and nightlife. I have to tell you, I don't think you need a professional opinion for one minute! I think it's normal to stare if someone is dressed in such a way that her cleavage is showing. Ok, staring is wrong for sure - on any level. If it bothers women that you are looking then I would suggest they not wear such items of clothing.

I have very large breasts and when i used to work in an office I got stared at all the time even though I was not showing cleavage. When your breast are very big men and women will find them even if you are wearing a dress made out of cement

You are absolutely right --- but the issue (question) was about cleavage - not just the size of breasts. When someone wears something out of the norm - or has boob size out of the norm, it's fairly easy to glance that way. Never stare. It's rude. If a woman has her boobs stuck out and cleavage showing, she WANTS to be looked at. Her perogative. Guys love boobs LOL

Deb, I even have cleavage when I wear a turtleneck! LOL
