Is it out of the question for a 17 year old to be interested in or fall in love with a 23 year old?

    no, but it is out of the question for the 23yo to allow the relationship to progress to a physical relationship.

    As a general rule, if you're under 18, in the US, and you wanna play with sex, do it with folks you're own age until you're in college...

    It is far safer on many, MANY levels.

    • I don't really see what the physical and mental differences between a 17 and 18 year old could be.

    • It really doesn't matter. We had to draw a line SOMEWHERE, and that's where it fell.

      Quite frankly, most 18 yo's aren't equipped to deal with an adult who is out to exploit them... a reasonable argument could be made that the line is too low...

    • You raise a good point, but 18 year olds aren't inherently unable to deal with exploitative adults. We coddle our youth in the US, so they're not as street smart or life smart as they should be. Fifty or so years ago, an 18-year-old would've been an adult according to the criteria set by society, including marriage, employment, and possibly home ownership.
