    Credit card -- neutral.
    Abuse of credit cards -- bad (and I've been guilty of this)
    Banks who try to get people to use credit cards, and merchants who try to get people to use them -- bad

    Credit cards are good for emergencies, and perhaps for initially establishing credit (use caution here). Other than that, keep them out of sight and don't use them.

    I've learned the hard way.
