In my experience, plantar warts look like firm raised bumps with a rough surface, covered in little black or grey dots. When they're on the soles of your feet or anywhere that receives significant pressure, they can REALLY hurt. Sometimes you just get one round one, sometimes they spread into little families (like mine did).
I found that diligent application of a product specifically for plantar warts (should be in any drugstore, and they're about $30 a tube here) works fine. If you don't see any improvement after, say, 6 months of use (they're tough little things), beg a dermatologist!
