How do cheetahs run so fast?

    They run very fast but they can only keep their speed up for less than ten seconds.

    A cheetah's heart is very small, hence they lose a lot of their stamina which does not enable them to keep their speed up for a long duration.

    • The actual sprint limit is closer to 45 seconds. The problem is not the heart, but the energy required and heat produced.

    • They don't need their top speed for the whole sprint, the initial burst is to get close, they have to slow down slightly when they close in because their prey is usually maneuvering at that point. These speeds will still overheat the little guy after not too long however
