What are some things a Baptist man can do to appeal to the parents of a Catholic woman he'd like to date?

    Convert! (Sorry, just making with the funny.)

    Assuming that your respective religions are important both to you and to them:

    First: Love their daughter and be loved in return. This is the primary requirement of any daughter's parents.

    Second: I find myself offended when certain strains of Christianity say that Catholics are not Christian. Don't do that.

    Third: Investigate the points of similarity between the Catholic and the Baptist faiths. Christ is our Lord God, the agent of our salvation and the fulfillment of God's Word. All Christian faiths know and accept this.

    Fourth: Recognize and respect the differences. While Biblical authority is important to Catholics, they believe that true authority comes from Christ, and that the Church is in a very real way to them His Body. They may not be able to articulate chapter and verse why they don't believe in sola scriptura, but trying to get them to change this bedrock belief is futile. (2 Thess 2:15) I would avoid any theological or doctrinal debate early on in the relationship.

    As part of this, assure them that you are not trying to convert their daughter. While they may believe that they have given her the Catholic faith fully and completely, they have known her all her life, including all her lapses in judgment, and they worry that you may be one of them.

    Fifth: Prayer will get you through hard times of any kind.
