You're reading How many times should my dog mate while shes in heat to make sure she becomes pregnant? And what day of her being in heat should I mate her?
Comments
is this really true, i hope so, my friends staffordshire bull terrier was on about day 9 of her heat cycle & she got out for about half an hour, she didnt know if she had mated with any dogs & 2 days later she was mated with another staffie, she had 8 puppies born 61 days from her mating, they were all healthy & look great, her bitch is black, brindle & the male was red, her puppies are brindle, some white & tan, white & black & 1 a light tan but no red, she thought mating with a red would have produced at least one red so now she`s a litle worried, the puppies are now 1 week old.

no, I have not ever heard of this to be true all the females I have worked with have all completed their heats despite being pregnant.

Then perhaps dogs differ in this response. Speaking from my experience breeding westies, once my bitch had 'tied' with the stud dog, she would no longer entertain him.

Possible that is is just different for every dog, or maybe just different by breeds.. interesting though

No...they do not come off heat, just because they bred, successful or not...the cycle runs its course.

you are an idiot. she will be in heat a full 3 weeks and can mate with many dogs in the window of day 8-14. that is why you can have pups with different fathers in the same litter. you should also not bred her on her 1st heat and only every other one after that.
