I think you've got it mixed up.
Atheists do not believe in a higher being.
And agnostics are in the middle - they're not sure if theres a god or not.

    • Who has it mixed up? Did I phrase it wrong? I am aware of the definitions; most other people don't seem to be.

    • Jerv, you're not describing Agnostics at all correctly. I am one. thesceneaesthetic is quite correct. I do not believe one way or the other. Prove it to me

    • And I thought agnosticism was the belief that God's nature is unknowable, and that there were two and only two types of agnostics: the agnostic theists -- those who believe God's nature is unknowable but still believe God exists; and agnostic atheists -- those who believe God's nature is unknowable (if God were to exist) and also believe God does not exist.

I don't think agnostics can claim that they're not sure what they believe. Either you have Belief X, or you do not.

    • I agree with you there, except that I allow for the fact there that may be people who legitimately neither believe nor disbelieve in a God/Pantheon of some sort.
But the point remains that not all Agnostics are Atheists, just as not all rectangles are squares.

    • Deism: is the standpoint that reason and observation of the natural world, without the need for organized religion, can determine that a supreme being created the universe.
This is not agnosticism. Quite plainly agnosticism is having no belief in either a God, or a Godless world. So yes as far as a stance on God we have NO belief. Not to say we could not believe in other ideas.
