Many friends have recommended that I change from Internet Explorer to Firefox Mozilla. Having no knowledge of what a browser really does, how important is it to change? Is it safe to download the free Firefox version?

    inconsequential

Firefox has been given (more) recent awards by PC World, PC Magazine, and CNET, and for good reason. It's lean, fast, feature-smart, and customizable through a huge repository of Add-ons. Unlike IE, it isn't directly tied to your operating system, so it doesn't allow the straight path of infection that IE does.

One of my favourite features about FF is the fact that its cross-platform. I can use it on Windows, Linux and OS X. I even have a portable copy (from www.portableapps.com) on my USB stick that I can take with me and use on other computers. Convenient.

    My Favorite Add-ons are:
    - AdBlock Plus
    - 1-ClickWeather
    - DownloadHelper

But the best advantage is that Mozilla *acknowledges* and fixes security problems quickly, rather than ignoring them or waiting weeks (or months) to issue updates.

It's must-have, especially for Windows users.
