Can I use PS3 controller for PS2?
My PS2 controller is broken. I might buy PS3 later so if it works.. I will buy PS3 controller and use it for PS2 for now.

Why does our PS3 turn off when we try to play something (game or DVD)? It happens almost immediately though sometimes you can get to the game's menu screen. It can be turned back on but of course turns itself right back off again.

Sorry, you are wrong, the PS3 has the chip used in the PS2 slim for backwards compatibly. It won't play about 200 of the 8000 games currently because they didn't meet the TRC (Technical Requirements Checklist), which is the game developers fault.

I believe that dp4kentucky is only partly right.
The US model was originally sold with the PS2 chip, but is no longer, and the UK model has never been sold with the PS2 chip.
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
