Does the PS3 play all (or a big part of) PS2 games?

    Not really. It emulates PS2 games, but the emulation software is so crappy the sound is off, of random texture and graphic glitches occur.
    You're better off playing a PS2 with PS2 games.

    • Sorry, you are wrong, the PS3 has the chip used in the PS2 slim for backwards compatibly. It won't play about 200 of the 8000 games currently because they didn't meet the TRC (Technical Requirements Checklist), which is the game developers fault.

    • I believe that dp4kentucky is only partly right.

      The US model was originally sold with the PS2 chip, but is no longer, and the UK model has never been sold with the PS2 chip.

      Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
