2002 ford ranger 4x4. Driving in 2wd makes loud grinding clacking sound. \Quiet in 4wd. Worked fine. Now 4wd only reverse.

Legally you are correct, but if you go much slower in certain parts of Eastern Massachusetts you'll be dead within two exits. They are CRAZY down there!
