My friend has been trying to avoid eating her lunch. We rarely see her eat after school; she is also taking nightschool 2 times/week. My friends and I have been trying to help/convince her she needs to eat. Any advice/suggestions?

Food has become her control. I suffered from the same thing, I have been bulimic for over 15 years. An eating disorder; whether it's not eating, binging and purging or overeating, it's a disease and it is extremely harmful to her. If her parents are willing to help her, that is wonderful. Do her parents know? Does she want to tell them? If not, you need to get her help. It's not just that her obsession is killing her but it has adverse effects. Her hair will start to fall out, her skin will dry, nails will become brittle and what it does to her digestive system is unrepairable. She may need professional help. If she wants to talk to someone please see to it that she can. I can offer loads of information on eating disorders if she decides she wants to start healing. You are being a great friend by just taking the first step.

    • Thanks. Sometimes I don't know whether I'm taking all of this all out of proportion. I don't want to cause more stress for her. This is just the beginning; it might get better or might get worse...

    • My first concern is just making sure she eats throughout the day. If it's getting worse then my friends and I will find more help.

    • It usually doesn't get better, she may be an exception, I pray that she is. Try to help her as much as you can. Whatever you do, do not count her out.
