You're reading What's the most disturbing film you've seen?

David Lynch rubs me the wrong way. I watched The Elephant Man and loved it, so then I checked out Blue Velvet. I hated it. Pure shock value, although I'm sure Lynch saw some metaphysical truth in there somewhere. Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut was nearly as surreal and shocking, but I liked it much better.

yeah blue velvet is a good film, but not that disturbing...

The Bjork film is "Dancer in the Dark," possibly the best film ever made, in my opinion.

I've not herd of eden lake, onceuponatime1982 - - not sure I want to see it! Ha! Those 'Faces of Death" would probably be my answer, with the original 1997 "Funny Games" up at the top of the list, too.

you should check out eden lake. i can sit and watch anything and nothing happens, but that film got me soo angry, by the end i was litterally swearing at the t.v. it makes you angry.
once on tv there was this documentary about people who have phantom limbs. they have a leg amputated but can still feel it. like they feel theyre missing foot itching and its not there! so they ahve surgery, and the doctors have to find the part of their brain that feels signals from the phantom limb. they had this woman and they sliced opn her scalp, and attached electrodes to certain parts. then they put the current thru and when the woman says its making my phantom foot twitch they burn the nerves in the brain to stop it from happening. they had this woman lying there with her brain exposed, and they turned the current up to high, and her brain started pusating and she had the worst fit.
thats the most disturbing thing ive ever seen. yuck

I probably could take Eden Lake compared to Pulsating Brain Fry, yes. [ And the 1997 original "Funny Games" I mentioned up above a couple of comments also disturbed me immensely into anger. Excellent movie, though, in my opinion. I'd dare say a masterpiece, even. ]

i agre too. funny games was very very good. i love films that actually get emotions out of people. i know people that say they love horror films. then they watch eden lake and say " ugh that film was crap, it was really horrid" horror films should be horrid!!!!!!!
by onceuponatime1982 on February 21st, 2010
:) True. [ A requirement for me of any movie, though, is that I must somehow want to invest energy in the characters, whether the characters are 'good' or 'bad.' Also, in horror films, if there is no investment for me in the characters, I don't get so scared. :) ]
