Depends on the environment within which the seed was stored, the species of the parent trees, wether the seed was viable in the first place, and the environment within which it was planted. Apple trees do propagate via seeds, so there is a chance -- a highly variable chance -- that it will sprout.

Note that apples do not grow true from seed. That is, if you plant a seed from a red delicious you are not going to grow an apple tree that produces red delicious fruit!

    • Yikes! So if you plant a seed from a red delicious apple... and, it sprouts, and it grows into a tree... what kind of apples will you get?
