Question

Help answer this question below.

Can a vegetarian restaurant refuse to serve me steak if I want one for dinner? Isn't that discrimination?

I ask this question based on a discussion in a comment thread I am having with others here on AB.

If a pharmacist is morally opposed to dispensing the morning after pill, should he be forced to comply? Or should he abandon his profession if he can't fulfill his duties?

If a business is run by a religion that is opposed to birth control on moral grounds, should they be forced by the government to cover it in their insurance plan?

I suspect some think it is silly for a religion to be morally opposed to birth control, and therefore it it no big deal if they are forced to offer it in their insurance coverage.

So, for the sake of argument, I don't think it is a big deal to eat meat. I don't see why vegetarians are so opposed to it. So if the vegetarian restaurant refuses to serve me meat on moral grounds, I'm going to protest and sue. If they don't like it, they need to get out of the restaurant business.

Is that reasonable?

If a vegetarian restaurant is asked to serve a meat dish they cannot comply, not for the fact that it's not on the menu but because there most likely isn't any meat in the house.
A normal restaurant on the other hand can comply with a vegetarian because if it's possible they can omit the meat from the dish.

Now let's take the religious aspect of it like you were saying.
There is no contraception in the Catholic religion.
Forcing the Catholic church to provide contraception would be like forcing the vegetarian restaurant to go to the market and buy meat just for your specific order.
You could always go to another church, Protestant for example, that allows contraception and then you wouldn't be forcing anything on anyone.

    • @ guirion -- There are many spiritually mature Catholic women who are on the pill! Just because the church doesn't permit it, that doesn't mean it's not there.

If "mother church" would stay the hell out of our bedrooms, there would be a lot more happy marriages.

When you have to make love with a thermometer in one hand and a calendar in the other, it's unrealistic to be happy between the sheets under those circumstances.

Catholicism is nothing more than a giant, male-dominated cult.

    • Where did I condone Catholicism in my answer?
I'm not Catholic so I really don't care about their rules, all I'm saying is if those are the rules someone abides by they should not be forced to do otherwise.
I you don't want "Mother church" in your bedroom, don't belong to it.
Besides it's no different than having "Mommy government" in your bedroom now is it?
