    Yes, I use it for everything.

    For those who haven't heard of it, OpenOffice is a free, open source office suite. It's an alternative to Microsoft Office and includes a word processor ("Writer"), spreadsheet ("Calc"), presentation/powerpoint ("Impress"), database ("Base"), drawing ("Draw"), and math ("Math") components. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

    In addition to personal use, I used it for all the work I did in the completion of my Master's degree, and I used it to write a book I was contracted to write by a publishing company.

    OpenOffice.org (the proper name of the suite) reads and saves Microsoft formats and many others. You can download it here, free:

    If you just need an amazing word processor, I'd suggest getting AbiWord, another free, open source product.

    If you'd like to have OpenOffice, AbiWord, Firefox or other software that can run from your USB pen drive (so you can run them on any computer you happen to be sitting at), get them here:
