I'm Anglo-Catholic (Episcopalian). Every church I've been in has a candle that burns 24 hours a day near the Blessed Sacrament. The only time it is extinguished is from the end of the Good Friday liturgy until the Easter Vigil mass, when there is no consecrated bread or wine anywhere in the church at all.

My guess is that it might be similar in Roman Catholic churches, but hopefully a Catholic will answer and confirm that.

    • Okay, and exactly why was this rated down? Haven't you ever heard of a "sanctuary candle"?

    • As a one-time Catholic, I can indeed confirm that this practice is the same as what you described.
