Why do guys enjoy sex so much?

    Here's my guess.

    In our distant past, in the days of small, widely spaced communities, it would have made sense for one man to impregnate many women, thus spreading the gene pool around. Therefore the men would have had to have a much higher sex drive than the women. And of course, once a woman got pregnant there would have been no reason for her to have sex again, until she had given birth.

    In many ways our brains have not really developed since those days. In the matters of sex our impulses and reactions are extremely primitive. This is the reason men tend to like curvaceous women with "child bearing hips" and women like highly muscled "protective" men. Even though intellectually we have gone past needing these attributes in a partner the evolutionary impulse is still very strong.


    Red John: I've never used this as an excuse, and I'm betting that you haven't either. It's just a theory, one that fits in with current thinking about male sexuality. It IS true that males can have sex with many women whereas once women get pregnant there's no BIOLOGICAL need for them to have sex again til they've given birth. This is the reproductive nature of our species.

    And anyway, what "actions" are you referring to? The question merely asks why men enjoy sex. It's not talking about promiscuity or unfaithfulness, simply why is the sexual imperative so strong with the males of our species.

    Obviously there are many psychological/societal reasons why this answer isn't necessarily true today, but as a basic behavioral explanation I think it stands up.
