Eh, no. Many brand names do have higher standards for the fabric their clothing is cut from. Also, another reason for higher cost is because designer clothing is more ahead in fashion trends.
A classic example of these qualities is the company Gap. Compare their 3 brand names side by side. You can easily tell there is a difference between the products. Old Navy products lack in trend, stitch quality, fabric quality, etc. Banana Republic on the other hand is much softer, better stitched together, better fabric, and usually more trendy. That's what you pay for. To me personally a $80 jump in price for these luxuries is not really justified.
For me personally, what I do is just buy excellent condition clothing online. I can get excellent condition $80 Ralph Lauren chinos for $25. Some people it bothers about buying used clothing though. So, to each his own I guess.
