On earth for pratical purposes given the curvature of the earth at or near sea level, the distance the eye can see on a clear unobstructed day is 16 miles, just another interpretation of distance possible.

    • 16 miles on a level earth, but on a mountaintop, 50 miles is indeed possible and has been reported on meteorological observations in the past. Nowadays, they usually limit it to 9999 meters (7 miles) or occasionally some other round number (10, 12).
