Well people talk about the movie Dune being the worst translation from book to screen ever...and I think it still is. But Travolta managed to come in second with Battlefield Earth.

    • I read those reviews of Dune and wasn't happy when I saw the first cut. A later viewing reversed that early opinion completely and I, like a lot of other reviewers on iMDB, "disagree with the fuss" as one reviewer put it.
I have the DVD now and watch it occasionally, always enjoying the easy willing suspension of disbelief.

    • You know when a movie is hyped as being good? Then you see it and it's not as good as it was hyped to be so you start thinking that it's actually a bad movie. Same thing with some movies that are hyped as being terrible. You watch it and since it isn't as bad as you thought it would be, you start to think it's good. Well...I think that's the case with Dune. But, I would give it another shot.

    • I remember reading that the first version was so bad that a director's cut was produced, and that might be the one I have that I like and watch over again. I couldn't find evidence of this having been done on iMDB, but maybe that's because only the director's cut version was released on DVD. Completely unsure at this time, but I did find an alternative ending on youtube that's interesting, and touted as being less stupid than the one released.
