Not when I'm the one they're mad at.

It's my impression that the role of "favoured child" goes to whichever child is not present, so they can be held up as an example to aspire to, while I'm being lectured about what a disappointment I am.

However, should that child do something my parents don't approve of, the top role goes to someone else (so long as they aren't in the room at the time), so that the former 'golden child' can be lectured similarly.

This allows us all to be used as instruments to bash each other with, without any of us ever actually receiving any face-to-face credit for a job well done. :)

Parents: Don't try this at home.
