Who knew that Mary Shelley, the creator of Frankenstein, is considered to be the originator of science fiction? I did not. Did you?

    I wonder who came up with that one.....I think varieties of science-fiction were evolving before the name sci-fi ever was coined. It used to be called witchcraft...or magic....perhaps? There are stories in the bible and in the torah and in the koran which could fit into the category of sci-fi these days!

    • There is a new series on the Science Channel titled "Prophets of Science Fiction". The first author profiled was Mary Shelley and that is what "they" said...that Mary Shelley is generally recognized as having started the entire science fiction genre.
