I've restored two homes: an 1890s Queen Anne and a 1911 Arts & Crafts style. With the exception of the licensed work (plumbing, electrical, etc.) I did the majority of work myself over 5 years.

    • Have you ever refinished floors?

    • @Brook: Oh Yeah. Both homes had oak floors, so I got pretty comfortable with a floor sander, hand-rubbed stain, and many many many clear coats to finish. A lot of work.
@Bruce: Thanks. Talk about sweat equity. :)

    • Todd did you use a hand held sander or the upright model, just curious? And do rememeber what color stain you used? I've taken up my carpeting (too many koolaid stains) and now I want to do some refinishing, they look pretty cool but I want to protect them.
