There are two separate questions here.
Why is the universe here, and secondly are any of the explanations offered (including god) relevant or informative?
The answer to the first is that no-one knows in any certain sense simply because on-one has any relevant verifiable facts or plausible justifications. The universe is just here. Why is not answerable without resorting to mysticism or wishful thinking.
But the second question is more interesting. People have come up with many answers, each proclaiming to explain the unexplained. But just because someone ventures an explanation for an unexplained phenomenon, doesn't mean that the explanation is in anyway connected to the unexplained phenomena in a real way, and therefore should not be believed.
The current simplest explanation named "God" is at best a proxy to fill an uncomfortable hole in our ability to make sense of our existence. Let me put it this way, if you heard a voice which said don't walk, and you listened to it, and a truck came past you which would have instantly killed you, who do you give the credit for that voice to? God, because its the consensus view? Sadly there's as little time stamping on fossils as there is voice identification on voices in the head.
People attribute the unexplained to what they were taught to attribute the unexplained to, in most cases what is the idea of God, instead of asking some serious questions like "WTF was that? This has absolutely no relation to anything Iv'e ever heard from any preachers or scientists mouth."
So in summary, we have no idea why we're here, and no-one has a better idea than you or I. This in no way detracts from the mystery of why we are here, or the gravity of our situation, however, anyone offering you explanations is a manipulative politician or minion.
What is really interesting is how humanity has grown because of its dependence on such explanations and associated moral systems. This in itself is so fascinating, because it seems that the concept of God is powerful enough by itself, irrespective of whether any god did or didn't exist, to change our behaviour and growth, and patterns of power exercise and exploitation of peoples on one side of a planet by another. On this point alone I love religion as an incredibly useful tool, whose efficacy I do not second guess, and the legitimacy of its existence only with a few.
But that's something else altogether.
