    inconsequential

Ubuntu (and Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Edubuntu) all come out on a regular release schedule, every 6 months in April and October.

Ubuntu 7.10 (codename "Gutsy Gibbon") is scheduled for release on 18 October 2007 and will be supported with software and security updates until April 2009.

The next version will be 8.04 (2008, April) and specific details will be available as that date approaches.
