Hmmm....depends. I supported my husband through college while obtained a bachelors in respiratory therapy. He wanted to then pursue dental school and later oral surgery school. During that period, we had 3 children, I supported us, and he only attended school. After that, he cheated on me and we are contemplating a divorce. We have been married 11 years and live in Florida too. I met him in high school,...got married after I graduated and he asked if we could get married early. With this in mind, I am now with my 3 kids taking care of them, but I have realized I want out. Tired of the emotional stress and what my girls are seeing---a loveless marriage that is "nice",...but just not growing. Went to counseling,...tried everything. Just over it all. Too much betrayal.
In this case, I will fight for permanent alimony in that I sacrificed being accepted into a masters program for business mgmt. and other promotions that I gave up for the sake of my children and supporting him in school (I had to always be home working or taking care of the kids for his education)
He abused the system of using another person to get to his ladder of success,....and you can be damn sure,...I will get what I earned. Hard work, a good place for my children with their mother freely there for them,....and a big dose of a reality check for him. As BUREBISTA wrote,.."The act of injustice to someone (your ex) will only bring you the wrath of God,...big time".....and "Who doesn't work should not eat".....
My husband should've worked, cared for his kids,....and then ate. Instead he had an affair, didn't take care of our kids,.....and loves being called "Doctor".
Grow up alimony haters. Walk in someone's shoes. Have children. Sacrifice your family. Utterly sacrifice. Then talk.
Ignorance is bliss. Especially for those who judge.
