Consider how boys typically treat their male friends. Teasing is a fairly common among boys who are friends and in fact can be a way to show friendship (i.e. by taking turns taking shots at each other verbally or even some physical contact but without it escalating into anything more than play fighting). In contrast, girls tend to build and maintain friendships by talking about their feelings on various matters. So when a guy, particularily a younger guy, likes a girl he might tease her to show that he wants to be friends (or even something more) because that is the behavior he uses among his guy friends. However, she may not recognize his intentions and may think that he is just being mean.

    • Do girls ever go up to their best friend, put them in a headlock, then pull their underwear's waistband halfway up their back? Sometimes us guys forget that females are not males so we treat you like one of the guys and feel hurt when you misinterpret us calling you 'bitch' with a smile on our face because our friends take that as a the term of endearment it was meant to be. Unfortunately, it's hard to tell the guys who are being misunderstood from the ones that are really genuinely being mean.
