It's not that Christians are not aware that Saturday is the original Jewish Sabbath. From what I was taught growing up (in Catholic School), the early Church knowingly changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday as a remembrance/celebration of Jesus rising from the dead. So, for Christians, their Sabbath actually is Sunday.

A sabbath, by definition, is just a special time set aside by a group of people for rest or worship. Peoples and civilizations throughout history had different sabbaths (Babylonians, some Buddhists, some Muslims, some people of the Bahai faith, etc.). Even today, most Wiccans and other earth-based practitioners celebrate eight Sabbats (same root) in their Wheel of the Year. So, the Christian Sabbath is Sunday, the Jewish Sabbath is Saturday, and if you and your group of friends want to have a monthly get-together you're more than welcome, by definition, to call that your group's monthly Sabbath.

    • I didn't say anything about the Catholic Church, just that I went to Catholic school. When I was referring to "the early Church" I was referring to Christianity as a whole - before there were any splits.
