You can start at a local community college that offer a LPN one year program. After completion, you can sit for the NCLEX-LPN (exam), then get a job as a LPN (licensed practical nurse). While earning a living as a LPN, you may be able get your hospital to pay for your RN (registered nurse) education, which is one more year of school. That, I think would be the cheapest way to go.
If you have no limitations on money, you can go to a more expensive program called "Accelerated BSN program" where you can get your BSN (bachelor of science in nursing) in one year, instead of the usual four years.
