If the religion argument can never be won by any side, why do people continue to ask questions about "how can you possibly believe (or not believe)" exactly what you believe? Kinda pointless and bandwidth wasting, no?

Religion and Politics and emotive. There is the herited and traditional views and beliefs that one is used to. This is institutionalised and is hard to let go.
As long as ones faith is reality in the fact that one has experienced it and has proved it to be true then their lives will show.
Arguments can be won or lost, the intention is win over the individual over to your belief. Arguments can end in one not winning the person over but just end in winning the argument. Which does not help the cause of ones faith (religion).
