    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

The focal length of a camera lens dictates the perspective of the pictures the camera takes. Both 35- and 70-mm lenses take pictures in the normal range of perspectives --- street and documentary style. 35-mm pictures are closer to wide angle photography; 70-mm pictures are closer to telephoto photography. Basically, a 35-mm lens stretches perspective slightly while a 70-mm lens slightly compresses the perspective.
