    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Martin Luther King Jr. Day has been an official federal holiday since President Ronald Reagan signed legislation authorizing it on Nov. 2, 1983. The law stipulates that Martin Luther King Jr. Day be the third Monday of January each year.
