    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

Yes. Alimony can be awarded to either eligible spouse regardless of who files for divorce. A court will order one spouse to pay alimony to the other if the requesting spouse earns considerably less income and has fewer assets, making her unable to be self-supporting after the divorce. Most states award rehabilitative alimony until the spouse obtains sufficient employment or may award temporary alimony, usually owed for 1/3 of the length of the marriage.
