Can I use an expired passport as documentation?

    An expired passport cannot be used as documentation in most cases. Social Security accepts only current documents as proof of identity. According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services I-9 Handbook for Employers, expired documents are not accepted as documentation of work eligibility.
