Schindler's List is only peripherally "true"; Spielberg takes great liberties with the facts. I find the appeal to emotion mawkish and the use of the Holocaust for entertainment faintly distasteful.

I disagree with your thinking on this one DavidHume. Movies like Titanic.. are the type that exploited and belittled a tragedy by making it a love story.. over-riding the extreme horror of that tragedy.. there was nothing more insulting than turning such an event into a lame romance that barely hinted at the real horrors of the sinking of that great ship. Spielberg however, really did justice to the Holocaust and many have stated so who would know. It was not an exact replica no, but then how could it be? The story line was sensitive and it was held together with great tact regarding such tragedy. Kudos to this answer.

It's got to be a judgement call on ones like this. I agree with you about Titanic; in fact I have not seen that movie I hated the idea so much. Personally I couldn't stomach Schindler's List, but I was mainly responding to the phrase "it's true" (it isn't true), which I think makes this a weak answer.

What are you referring to as not being true? Sorry.. just confused.. early morning head fuzz

Hmm, well I would have to go and check a book to give you a full answer, but off-hand "The Holocaust" by Martin Gilbert gives a much less flattering account of the life and works of the real-life Oskar Schindler than Spelberg's film does.

ok .. well I think that out of any of the movies that re-enacted a historical tragedy.. this one was the best. I doubt it could be possible to make a movie and it reach the level we think it should be. Impossible if you ask me as it is fake..not the actual event itself. I see what you mean and I felt it strongly for the Titanic like you do this one.. I do think Spielberg did a good job in trying to make it powerful and a great reminder of our history. I understand where you are coming from.
