You're reading I understand that a large mosque costing an estimated £100M is being considered in London (England), to be built in the docklands. Muslim community in the UK is casting its vote in droves. What are your thoughts?
Comments
London is ''their '' capital city as much as London is the capital city for English Christians. Some of my good friends are Muslim and they're all English. It's this whole idea of splitting people and religious groups into ''them'' and ''us'' that causes so much friction and fighting, because it's like battle mentality all the time.

True. Maybe they should build a non-denominational building and just share it, or use an empty warehouse or something practical, and spend the money on helping the less fortunate

I think Smart means that the equivalent would be if Iran built (and paid for with public money) a Buddhist or Jewish temple in THEIR capitol??!!??
by Scifisuz on July 11th, 2007
Well by ''their'', Smart was referring to Muslims. My point is that London is one of the capital cities for Muslims...the fact I have Muslim friends who are English proves this.
by Carmella on July 11th, 2007
I thought England was a Christian country, officially. Who knew?
by Scifisuz on July 11th, 2007
Yeah. But London is still a capital city for Muslims.
by Carmella on July 11th, 2007
I just wonder how tolerant they would be of a Christian building of worship in Iran
by smart9426 on July 11th, 2007
Who is ''they''?
by Carmella on July 11th, 2007
Who do you think? Iranians
by smart9426 on July 11th, 2007
Well I imagine some people wouldn't mind, some would object, a lot like the attitudes people have in England. Does it matter? Surely it's better to set an example and show that England as a nation is accepting and tolerant. Being intolerant won't help anyone or their cause, except to provide further reason and ammunition for wars fought in the name of religion.
by Carmella on July 11th, 2007
I agree. But I think other countries/religions would do well to follow the tolerant attitude shown them by Britain in general
by smart9426 on July 11th, 2007
Of course, but we can only hope that tolerance rubs off somewhat...however the UK still has a long way to go before we can claim to be truly tolerant.
by Carmella on July 11th, 2007
Not as long a way as some countries I could mention!
by smart9426 on July 11th, 2007
Is it a two-way street in UK? Are Muslims tolerant of others?
by Scifisuz on July 11th, 2007
Some are, some aren't. You can't generalise a whole group of people like that.

Most Iranians dress and look and act just like Westerners. My Iranian dentist told me only a minority of Iranians are practicing Muslims and wear traditional Muslim garb. Her family live there, parents, brothers, sisters. It's hard for uneducated westerners to realize that most middle-Easterners are just ordinary people, with homes, families, jobs, bills to pay, kids to pick up after soccer practice, dinner to cook, TV to watch, homework for the kids. They don't have three heads, big fangs, and lurch around like zombies looking for brains to eat.
I have en eye surgeon who is one of the best in the Pacific Northwest, also Iranian. He's an associate professor at the most prestigious medical school for miles around.
Iranians are just people. Only morons like the talking heads on FoxNews will try to convince you otherwise. Don't swallow their swill. They're highly paid to present a radical right-wing point of view.

One of the biggest churches in Middle East is located in Tehran, the Capital city of Iran. If that's what you mean by reciprocation then it's already done I'd say!
