My friend as just moved into a house and the cupboards smell musty because it wasnt lived in for a long time. how can she get rid of the smell?

First clean it with a bleach solution in case there is mildew or mold in it. Then rinse with some baking soda and leave the doors open overnight to air out. That should help a lot.
