    Sometimes water gets into the carburetor and the water dilutes the petrol.This will eventually evaporate and the car will start properly.

    • It is too much effort for me to call them fuel injectors,but that is what I meant .I was brought up with the term carburetor.

    • Oh. Well, you have to use the right terms around me because I take things literally. Chances are the fuel injectors could be messed up, but they are still closed units and I don't think any water could get in there. The fuel rail is a closed unit, the injectors are closed, etc. since the fuel is under pressure. The sensors attached to them may be disrupted but I doubt there's water in the fuel. Even if it did happen the amount of fuel contaminated would be so small that the problem would last for at most one minute. ;

    • Then it would be the sensors,as you said.

    • Likely none of the above. Older or degraded distributor cap or plug wires can cause this problem in the presence of moisture. If that's the cause, the components probably should be replaced. If you're stuck in a no start/sputtering situation, you can try spraying WD40 on the cap and wires. It will displace the moisture. I've done that countless times on diffeent vehicles and boats.
