You're reading Do you think cheerleading is a sport? I have been cheerleading for about 10 years now, and I still have people that tell me cheerleading is not considered a sport, even though cheerleading is one of the most dangerous sports out there!

So along that line, chess is a sport?

In my opinion, no. You can be a paraplegic and still be a chess master, but you'll never be able to compete in a cheerleading competition. I believe there is a physical and mental component to "sport"

You can be a paraplegic and play basketball, yet no one argues that that isn't a sport.

And maybe they have competitive paraplegic cheerleading meets that would also be considered sport. I doubt the same to be true for a quadriplegic, who, by the way, is fully capable of playing chess.
