Fertilizers are compounds given to plants to promote growth, including stimulating general growth and fertilizers designed to augment one particular phase of growth.

In other words, the term "fertilizers" refers to a HUGE range of substances, carriers, and means of distribution. As well, the impact of a fertilizer on a human may change greatly depending on how and when the fertilizer is applied to the plants. Fertilizers can interact, too.

Some substances that are used as fertilizers can be extremely toxic to humans -- outright poisonous, even. Such substances may be intended for non-food growth (flowers, trees, bushes, etc..) and may only be problematic as "leakage" into gardens, etc. Lawn treatments can be an example. Other substances may be highly toxic, but break down quickly and, thus, are safe to use when plants are young (prior to setting veggies or fruit).

Because of all of this, the impact on humans of the generic term "fertilizers" is extremely varied. Everything from a slight increase in the risk of cancers to growth & development problems over time to immediate death.

The question is extremely generic and, without naming a specific substance or method of application, it is impossible to provide a specific description of the impact on people.
