You're reading Do you believe there are legitimate psychics? Why or why not?

I have heard about this organization and they are a scam, trying to disprove psychic powers. It is too bad the people like this are so close minded. What are they afraid of ,the fact that it exists?

How does he scam anyone?
He is not saying there isn't psychics, he offers to pay $1 million to someone who can pass the agreed upon controlled tests.
I think psychics might be possible and anyone who can prove it deserves the $1 million if they can actually prove it. Unfortunately the 1,000 something applicants so far haven't passed.

What sort of test can possible test a psychic. We are talking the supernatural. If it is one of those guess the number,or word behind a barrier,or some other test like that, then that is a scam and not a true test of a psychic.Who set the rules,I one whom conveniently sets rules that no one can beat, and does not prove anything.I think it is impossible to test for true psychic ability. That is why I call he a fraud, and close minded, and limiited in he thinking.I feel sorry for him.

An accuracy test.

As I said ,I have seen these tests in documentaries, and prove nothing.
by jin jang on July 3rd, 2007
Both parties agree to the rules.
by Cannabis its just a plant on July 3rd, 2007
If that is truly what happened then the ones that were tested either were not psychics or the test is inaccurate.I would still say the test is inaccurate.
by jin jang on July 3rd, 2007
He meets their requirements and seems to be extremely reasonable.
So you believe there are are some "bad apples" among the psychics. Ok - then how would you conduct a test to make sure someone was accurate and not committing fraud.

I think with the nature of psychic abilities there is no concrete test, and no way to prove one way or the other. Therefore it comes down to belief. We all have some level of psychic ability and either don't recognize it,feel that we will be called crazy if we admit it,or deny we have hit.I care little of what others think of my point of view and admit I have some psychic ability.

It doesn't come down to belief. Is someone making accurate predictions of the future, or know things without really ever learning about them, beating statistics more often than not, without having been able to somehow cheat? Can they move things with their minds?
Everything that is real doesn't hide under a rock when people try to study it scientifically. If it does, one must conclude that it is not actually a real phenomena.
People often think they are psychic because they are ignorant of the fact that their brains / unconscious mental processes are MUCH more observant and intelligent than their conscious minds. Hunches, feelings, and premonitions are the result of an enormously powerful pattern recognition engine in your head, working without you even knowing it, piecing together all the sensory data that you largely ignore, including cues so subtle the conscious mind won't register them. Every psychic hunch has been explainable in terms of this.

I don't agree. There are plenty of "physics" that have assisted police in finding missing persons and bodies with no prior knowledge of the crimes--even when they are brought in from out of state. The cops themselves are stymied and admit they have no other explanation for it but 'gifted' powers.

The reason such tests cannot work is that psychic ability is not consistent by its very nature. Like the wind that sometimes blows strongly and sometimes failed entirely for the old clipper ships, psychic ability cannot be depended on 'on demand'. That's why those 'tests' are not accurate. By that logic, sailing ships were fraudulent for all the thousands of years they were used.
